"The Wing"

So it is onto some sheet metal work to give me a change. Before I could do that I had to put some strengthing pieces inside for support. Here you can see the 1/4 bar pieces from the side mounts to the top. This will make the whole unit stronger in the long run. There will be others as well as we go.

The front was the place to start as I figured some of these pieces would be the hardest to form. And I was right about that. So many compound curves in many directions made it a difficult piece to make. It all looks easy in card board but when you get to making the part out of steel it does not want to curve and form quite as easy. But everything had to be a perfect fit around the fork legs so there would be no interferance. Its close....but just enough room to clear.

Here is one of the pieces ready to be installed. Yes its got a little nick in it from the grinder but that will be welded up when installed.

So now it is on to the front bottom piece and then the sides of the body go. Each piece has so many different curves that they all require time to make sure they fit perfect before they are welded in place.

The front bottom mount piece was a little different story but we got it figured out after a while.

The english wheel helps out with the longer curves on the sides. It starting to take shape now and more ideas continue to go through my mind, how the sides will go along the body, the fit around the seat we have to fabricate etc. Plenty to go yet but it is progressing along nicely.

Here are some shots of the left side so far. Just need to make another piece for where the fork legs go and then it will time to put the tops on. Thats when she will really begin to take shape. Can't wait.
